Calling all Randy Travis fans!  Join me Sunday, October 26th, at 11 am when I look back at the life and music of Randy Travis.

Randy Travis opened the door to young artists who sought to return to the traditional sound of country music.  His first single, On The Other Hand, reached a disappointing #67 on the country chart.  He was with Warner Bros at the time and the record company then released his second single,1982, which placed in the Top Ten.

After 1982 the label decided to re-release On the Other Hand, which went to #1.  In 1986, both songs appeared on Travis' album, Storms of Life, which stayed at number one for eight weeks and sold over five million copies.

One of my favorite songs from Randy is I Told You So, written and recorded by Randy from his 1988 album, Always and Forever.  It reached #1 on Billboard's Country Singles Chart.  in 2007, the song was covered by Carrie Underwood on her album, Carnival Ride.  Her version was released in February 2009 and was re-recorded in March as a duet with Travis.  Their duet peaked at number two on the country chart in 2009.

In 1991, Randy married his longtime manager, Elizabeth Hatcher, in a private ceremony on the island of Maui.  They divorced in October of 2010 after 19 years of marriage.

On July 7, 2013 Travis was admitted to a Dallas hospital for viral cariomyopathy after a respiratory infection.  Three days later, he suffered a stroke and had surgery.  He was released from Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas on July 31, 2013.  Following his stroke and despite physical therapy, he has been unable to sing or speak and has difficulty with walking.
