It's the last day of August this Sunday -- the state fair is almost over and school starts on Tuesday for most kids but we're going to be shining some light on the life and music of Roy Clark at 11:00 a.m.

His country music credentials range from touring to hosting Hee Haw, a country music variety show for twenty-five years. Roy and Buck Owens were the hosts for more than twenty years and then Owens left the show after a few years while Clark continued to host.  He used his musical talent and his entertaining personality to bring country music into our homes.

Roy also pioneered the development of Branson, Missouri as a prime country music tourist destination.  In 1983, he opened the Roy Clark Celebrity Theater in Branson, thus becoming the first country music star to have his own venue in Branson.  This began a trend which led to Branson becoming a center of live music performance as it is known today. He frequently played in Branson during the 1980's and 1990's.  He has since sold the venue.

During his years on Hee Haw he had several top ten hits including Tips Of My Fingers, Yesterday, When I Was Young, and Come Live With Me, which was his only #1 hit, in 1973.

On May 17, 2009 Roy was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.  He has also been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1987.
