Sylvia Kirby was born December 9, 1956 in Kokomo, Indiana. She has been active in the tough music business since 1979. Through the early 1980′s she had a string of top ten country hits that include: Drifter, Tumbleweed and her 1982 crossover smash hit, Nobody. She called her style Prairie Music, which she described as being very light and airy.
Sylvia moved to Nashville in 1975 where she worked as a receptionist for a producer and publisher named Tom Collins. He gave her advice and she finally landed a contract with RCA in 1979.
In 1983 her hit Snapshot became one of her first country performance to be featured in a video clip. She also hosted a TNN cooking show. Sylvia recorded for RCA until the end of 1987 charting 13 Top Ten and #1 songs and sold more than four million records. Over an eight year period, Sylvia traveled America many times with her concert performances.
She was also a frequent guest on network television on shows such as the Today Show, Good Morning America and Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. She stopped touring and recording at the end of the 1980′s.
Since 2002, she has devoted her time as a life coach where she helps individuals working in the music industry. She is currently married and lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
