How Cold Is Too Cold For School? Sauk Rapids-Rice Superintendent Explains
The National Weather Service has already posted a Wind Chill Warning for all of Minnesota for overnight tonight and through tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. And, that has a lot of parents wondering about what that means for school start times. Sauk Rapids-Rice Superintendent Dan Bittman says the school districts here in central Minnesota don't have a specific temperature or wind chill reading that they use to delay or cancel classes.

With this morning's dangerously low temperatures and wind chills even colder than they were yesterday, many area schools have once again cancelled classes for today. Here are the latest schools on the 'delayed/closed' list.

MNDOT has opened I-94 from Moorhead to Alexandria, and Highway 15 from St. Cloud to Kimball. Most area schools are closed today (Monday). Will tomorrow be a repeat? A 'Wind Chill Warning' remains in effect through Noon tomorrow. Area temps are expected to be even colder tomorrow morning.

On Friday, Governor Mark Dayton announced that all Minnesota public schools would be closed yesterday due to the extreme cold. He left it up to the individual districts for today. Many schools have decided that closing again today (1/7) will be best; including St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids-Rice, Sartell-St. Stephen and more.
