Each Wednesday we take a trip down memory lane to highlight a classic country artist.  This week we are featuring the legendary duo, The Bellamy Brothers.

The Bellamy Brothers is made up of Howard and David.  Their dad was a musician as well and a member of a Western Swing band.  They grew up in Florida, where they were influenced by the likes of Percy Sledge.  The boys had absolutely no musical training and are able to play several different instruments including the banjo, fiddle and accordion.

They spent the early part of their career touring around Georgia but they got sick of playing taverns and clubs so they headed back home.

They signed on with Curb Records in 1975 and their first single was an absolute flop but in 1976 they release Let Your Love Flow and to say that song was a success is putting it mildly.

Over the years, they’ve had several other hits including Redneck Girl and Old Hippie.  Strangely enough, Let Your Love Flow has been just as popular in the last decade than when it was originally released.  According to The Bellamy Brothers website, in 2009 the song received the BMI Five Million Performance Award and it was #68 on their top 100 songs of the century.

Die hard Breaking Bad fans heard the song in an episode and over three decades after its release it broke the Top 20 on the charts in the UK.

The brothers still do quite a bit of touring today and play for our service men and women all over the world.  Check out this interview on what the guys are up to these days.

The Country Classic Flashback is brought to you by Midwest Machinery on East Highway 23 in Sauk Rapids, with 12 other Central Minnesota locations.
