This weekend might be the first "unofficial winter" weekend for Central Minnesota, but there is other business at hand. This Saturday is the State Semifinals for Minnesota high school football, and Jonathan's coming to visit...that hasn't changed!

But what has unfortunately changed is some of the game start times and venues. Here is a statement from the Minnesota State High School League website:

"As a result of the calendar-challenged weather system that dumped heavy, wet snow on portions of the state Monday and Tuesday of this week, the Minnesota State High School League has had to revamp the schedule for playing semifinal games of the 2014 State Football Tournament. A number of factors played a role in the decision-making process, including availability of sites, availability of personnel, field conditions, ability to prepare fields and stadiums, minimal disruptions to schools and communities, and moving games earlier in the day as much as possible due to expected cold weather. An early decision was made to scrap single games that had been scheduled at both the Edina Community Center and Wayzata High School. Now, those games will be played at different venues."

Still a huge congratulations to all 9 Central Minnesota high schools who've made it to the MSHSL State Football Semifinals this weekend:

  • Class 1A- Braham
  • Class 2A- BOLD, Holdingford
  • Class 3A- Glencoe-Silver Lake, New London-Spicer, Pierz
  • Class 4A- Becker, Hutchinson
  • Class 5A- Saint Michael-Albertville

And to commemorate this special time in fall high school sports, I'm taking out the 98 Country Hummer H2 to three (3) pre-game tailgates (due to the game changes by the MSHSL) this Saturday to celebrate with fans of our favorite Central Minnesota schools!

I want to personally thank all the area high school students, teachers, parents, alumni and community members for voting so far. Due to the changes in game times and venues, there are two (2) new voting polls below. The winning high school from the 2PM 98 Tailgate vote will determine the 3rd 98 Tailgate:

  • a win for Holdingford means a 4PM tailgate for the Pierz Pioneers at SCSU's Husky Stadium
  • a win for Braham or New London-Spicer/Glencoe-Silver Lake means a 5PM tailgate for the Saint Michael-Albertville Knights at Eden Prairie

Voting is restricted to one (1) vote per twelve (12) hours per computer and all voting ends this Friday, November 14th at 6PM Central Time. Winning schools will be announced on Friday on 98.1 FM in the 6PM hour. Thank you for your continued votes and good luck :)
