You read that headline correctly: James Cameron is planning to shoot ‘Avatar 2′ ‘Avatar 3′ and ‘Avatar 4′ all at the same time that could be released in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Sigourney Weaver spoke to Showbiz 411 about her upcoming TV miniseries ‘Political Animals’ and the question invariably came up about the ‘Avatar’ sequels. She’s working on a play at Lincoln Center and then mentions she’ll be shooting three ‘Avatar’ sequels back-to-back-to-back.

When asked how exactly that will work or how long it will take, Weaver said, “I just show up.”

Cameron’s original plan – announced back in 2011 – was to shoot just ‘Avatar 2′ and ‘Avatar 3′ back-to-back and release them on Christmas in 2014 and 2015 respectively. But it appears the director found some room for yet another ‘Avatar’ movie.

The question remains, do you (or does anyone) really have the passion for three more ‘Avatar’ films? Cameron did say that a portion of the sequels’ proceeds would be donated to “environmental causes that are at the heart of the ‘Avatar’ world” so that’s all well and good but creatively, where will the franchise go from here and can it sustain itself over three more films?  More importantly, can Cameron – a notorious fussbudget – maintain interest in his own franchise before scooting off to more deep sea dives?
