1947
The future Queen Elizabeth II married Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Ediburgh and former Prince of Greece and Denmark at Westminster Abbey. They are actual second cousins once removed! Before the marriage, Philip renounced his Greek and Danish titles and converted from Greek Orthodox to The Anglican Church. They received 2500 wedding gifts from around the globe!

1962
President John F. Kennedy agreed to lift the American blockade of Cuba, ending the Cuban missile crisis. The 29 day standoff was a result of the Soviet Union's decision to install nuclear-armed ballistic missiles in Cuba, only 90 miles away from Florida. By the end of the year the missiles and bombers were removed from Cuba.

Frederick Dierks Bentley was born on this day in 1975 in Phoenix, Arizona to Leon Fife Bentley, a bank vice-president, and Catherine Childs. His father was a First Lieutenant in World War II. His middle name, Dierks (which he now uses as his first name publicly), is also his mom's great-grandmother's surname. To date, he has released 9 studio albums and has 12 #1 songs on country radio.

Released in July 1999 as the first single from her album Emotion, Martina McBride's "I Love You" was #1 and spent 5 weeks on top of the country music radio charts. The song was originally recorded for the 1999 film's soundtrack, Runaway Bride, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
