Toby Keith received a surprise honor at a recent football game between the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

The singer was on hand at the game, which took place at OU in Norman, Okla. on Dec. 6, to present OU alum Rear Admiral Doug McClain with the Patriot of the Game award. Awarded through a partnership between the university and Patriot Ford, the honor recognizes "a recently returned member of the armed services at each home game," according to a press release.

Keith presented the honor during halftime, after which he was surprised when he was given the same award in turn. The award recognized the singer for his longstanding support of American service members, which includes more than a decade of USO tours and patriotic songs like 'American Soldier.'

The country superstar has given his support to many other important causes in his native state of Oklahoma. Through his Toby Keith Foundation, he opened the OK Kids Korral, which helps provide a cost-free, convenient and comfortable home for seriously ill children and their families seeking treatment at the Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center.

Keith also spearheaded a tornado relief benefit concert after the devastating tornadoes that swept through his hometown of Moore, Okla. in 2013, raising more than $2 million for the region.
