No matter who you are or where you were on the morning of September 11, 2001, you were changed forever – I know I was. I distinctly remember once the initial shock wave swept across the globe, there was an unbelievable amount of support for our country that was visible at every turn.

As we approach the 10th Anniversary this weekend, we continue to look for ways to remember, we look for ways to help and we look for ways to honor those that have fallen as a result of of those tragic events. There are several events going on around town this weekend that will pay tribute to all whom lost their lives either in the initial attacks or during the war following the attacks. One of those events actually begins at the state capitol and heads to Rice.

A good friend of mine, Rockie Lynne, has toured overseas and  performed for our troops many times. As a Veteran, Rockie knows the importance of supporting those that have lost loved ones in wars throughout the years. He established the Tribute To The Troops Ride in Minnesota in 2004. Each year, Rockie and his group assembles for the ride that goes across the state and visits the families of fallen soldiers at their homes.

This weekend the Tribute To The Troops Ride will make a stop in Rice to visit the family of Jonathon Manea along with seven other Minnesota families.

The ride that will visit Rice will kick off in Shoreview and will make several stops throughout the day. On Sunday, September 11, the ride will stage at Fort Snelling National Cemetary and will ride to the Medina Entertainment Center after visiting Fort Ripley for a concert with Rockie Lynne.

If you aren’t up for the ride or attending one of the services, you can do something that is needed – give blood. The need is always there and you will be helping to save a life immediately.

No matter what you do this weekend, the most important thing you can do is to take time to remember the events that changed our lives, the loved ones lost over the last 10 years and to spend precious time with your family and friends.
