The three players to occupy the ninth spot in the batting order on Wednesday combined to bat 3-4 with three RBI in an exciting Twins win.

The Twins bats awoke at just the right time in a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers Wednesday afternoon at Target Field. Minnesota is now 1-1 on the season.

Kevin Correia was excellent in his first start in a Twins uniform, lasting seven innings and allowing one run on seven hits, all singles. He received a no decision in Wednesday’s game.

Miguel Cabrera had an RBI single in each of the third and fifth innings for the Tigers for a 2-0 lead. The Twins got on the board in the seventh inning when pinch hitter Wilkin Ramirez doubled home Trevor Plouffe to cut the Tiger lead to a single run.

Plouffe led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk and was lifted for pinch runner Jamey Carroll. After Chris Parmelee flied out on a first pitch slider, Brian Dozier came through with a single to put runners on the corners with just one out.

Eduardo Escobar, in the game as a replacement for Ramirez, hit a high fly ball to deep center field that Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson appeared to have measured. However, the ball drifted in the wind and fell on the warning track in between Jackson and left fielder Andy Dirks.

Dozier read the play perfectly as the runner on first, advancing three-quarters of the way to second base while the ball drifted in the air, allowing him to score when the ball was not caught.

The Twins will finish their series with the Tigers at noon on Thursday.
