It's understandable that some folks just don't get technology. Even if you understand the internet or your phone and all of it's great ways to connect you to the world, sometimes we are afraid of what we don't understand...or don't have the time! But since 98 Country is giving away Garth Brooks tickets to a lucky Twitter follower tomorrow...I'm giving a few easy pointers so you can enter to win today!

I describe Twitter as a news feed on steroids :D Posts are only 140 characters, or about 25 words long. It's less formal and structured than Facebook, which leads to more opinions, quotes, photo shares, and breaking news stories. Mainly, Twitter answers the question: What are you and/or they doing right now?

  1. your name (which you can modify later)
  2. a valid email address
  3. a password you choose
  4. a username (or handle) you choose

When you sign up, you are identified as the username you picked with a "@" symbol in front of it...like mine: @JonathanSWest. Type usernames this way to communicate with other users in your TWEETS (posts). Follow others to get their tweets in your news feed on your home page, and in turn people follow you- showing interest in your postings. If you like other peoples tweets...you can favorite them for future reference or RETWEET (share) them on your Twitter by clicking on the symbol that looks like a recycling sign. HASHTAGS, or words with a "#" symbol in front of them, are common expressions or subject matters that you can use or create. They are click-able links to show all tweets with the same hashtags. Here are some examples:

#Vikings
#aspoonfulofsugar
#TwitterTuesday
#MinnesotaNice

So try it, have fun, and explore the Twitter-verse with us! Even if you only use it as an update feed for your news, sports, or entertainment sites- you never know when we'll do another awesome free contest with it! So follow us @98Country by midnight for a chance to win tomorrow morning!
