Warm-up By Saturday, Cooler Air By Sunday As Temps Tumble

Temperatures were generally in the 40s for highs over the weekend for the start of the firearms deer hunting season in Minnesota. A few flurries fell over the weekend, but it wasn’t enough to help the deer hunters track their “targets.” I heard mixed revenues from hunters across the state with some having very good luck and others, well, not so great luck. (Kind of like the Minnesota Vikings).

A cold front arrived on Tuesday into Tuesday night that brought some light rain and even some light snow across northern Minnesota. Temperatures were generally in the 40s once again which is near average.

Temperatures look to warm-up by late in the week. Parts of southern Minnesota could see high temperatures into the 60s and even lower 70s by Saturday with dew points in the 60s. Thunderstorms are very possible across the region.

A big change is coming our way, however, as a strong area of low pressure and a cold front could bring some snow and much colder air arriving by Saturday night into Sunday. This is a long way off so things could certainly change between now and then, but the computer models are in agreement of its track by late in the weekend.

It’s that time of the year for snow and cold so make sure that your vehicles are ready for changing wintery conditions.

Have a great rest of the week!

Weather history: On this date in 1943 a “severe ice storm took place in the Twin Cities, and heavy snow fell over southwest Minnesota.” Such communities as Worthington, Windom, and Marshall picked up between 14 to 16 inches of snow.

Weather fact: Did you know that each winter one septillion (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) of “snow crystals drop from the sky and that it takes about a million little droplets to make one snowflake?”
