What Was Dave McCord’s Driving Lessons With His Mom Like? [VIDEO]

YouTube

We all remember our first time behind the wheel when we are 15. Mine wasn’t the “typical” driving lessons. I found this video on YouTube and it pretty much sums up how it went with my mom throughout my entire age 15 year!

I remember it like it was yesterday. I had grown up driving tractors and trucks on the farm, so I already had a good control of a vehicle and the basic knowledge of how to drive. When I turned 15, I got my learner’s permit and hit the road as soon as it was printed!

For the most part, I had great control of the car, mom didn’t really have to do a lot of work with me on “how” to drive. It was more on the speed at which I was driving. (I had, and still have, somewhat of a lead foot)

I can remember one occasion in particular. Mom and I were heading to a banquet for school. I was allowed to drive as we were going into the city for this event. I had been pulling my normal speeding stunts and mom had told me that if I didn’t slow down she was going to lose her religion.

I was approaching a traffic light and was doing the speed limit. The light changed to yellow and I had to make a quick decision. Do I speed up to go through it, or slam on the brakes to stop? I chose to speed up and go through it.

What I didn’t know was the intersection had quite a bump in it. I sped up from 40 to 50 and hit that bump and went airborne as we passed through.

While this process took all of 6 seconds, my mother LOST it. Her composure AND her religion! When we hit that bump and went up into the air my mother let loose a string of curse words that would make a sailor blush. She grabbed hold of the seat like it had a rocket attached to it and she was about to shoot out the roof of the car.

We finally landed SAFELY on the other side and I was laughing so hard at her that I could barely control the car at this point. It took her a good 15 minutes to recover from that one and I didn’t get to drive back home.

This video is exactly what mom did to me when we were driving at 45 mph, not at high speeds on a course all by ourselves. She didn’t wear a helmet while I was driving, but I sure bet she wanted to! Maybe I should invite mom to join me at BIR and take her around that track just to see if her heart is working properly!
