Being sick is miserable enough, and then it goes and takes your taste away! So I'm going to get to the bottom of this, plus my cat is giving me the 'I've been off the couch more times than you today' look.

I found out our sense of smell is responsible for almost 75 percent of our sense of taste, which does make a lot of sense, but at the same time even if I totally clear out my nose I still can't taste anything... so I kept looking.

I found the answer! It's not a cure, but at least it's an explanation.  When you are sick and your nose is stuffed up, the membranes in your nose become inflamed which prevents proper contact with the nerves that transmit scents.  So that's why even if you blow your nose you still can't taste. I know it's a far stretch and a little dramatic but  I would be very appreciative if someone could find a cure for this...

I also have a few of my own home remedies to pass on to you if you are feeling under the weather, these 3 things always work for me:

- Echinacea , I have been a huge fan for many years, it's all natural and it helps boost your immune system.

-Turn your shower on as hot as it goes, close the door, and sit on the toilet. Inhaling the steam will really help loosen up the congestion.

- Make sure everything you will want or need for the entire day is within arms reach, including but not limited to electronics, reading material, beverages, and medicine. Stock the couch with a variety of pillows and blankets, and make sure the DVD player is loaded with a good chic flick (today I watched The Proposal).

After that, all you have to do is get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids! I bet you've never heard that before.
