The Minnesota Wild erased a late two goal deficit to take the New Jersey Devils to overtime on Thursday night, but ultimately fell 4-3. The Wild trailed 1-0 after one period thanks to a Michael Ryder goal with just over three minutes left in the opening frame. The Devils outshot Minnesota 10-6 in the first period of play.

New Jersey took a 2-0 lead into the locker room at the second intermission on a Mark Fayne shorthanded goal about halfway through the period. Shots on goal in the second period again favored New Jersey, this time 8-6 and 18-12 through two periods.

Zach Parise quieted the New Jersey fans’ boos with a power play goal seconds into the third period that cut the Devils lead to 2-1. Parise was booed lustily throughout the game by Devils fans who felt scorned by his decision to leave New Jersey as a free agent to play with his hometown Wild.

Future hall-of-famer Jaromir Jagr scored a power play goal to answer for the Devils and make the score 3-1 at 4:59 of the third.

However, the Wild would send the game to overtime with goals from Mikael Granlund at 10:36 and Matt Cooke on a deflection at 15:28. Shots in the third period were even at 10-10.

Andy Greene ended the game two minutes into overtime on a rebound slammed past Wild goalie Ilya Bryzgalov.
