Well, Darn! This stuff is good. I've always loved peppermint bark but the stuff is so darn fancy (and fancy on my wallet, know what I mean?). But this you can make yourself and it starts with a box of Saltines (or if your wallet is feeling a little fancied, like mine - then the Food Club soda cracker).

You will need:

soda crackers (don't get the low salt ones, salt is good)

1 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

crushed candy canes (about 2/3 cup)

Heat the oven to 350. Line a big jelly roll pan (12"x17") with foil and lay your soda crackers in the pan, side-by-side but not overlapping and salt side up.

In a saucepan melt the butter and brown sugar until it starts to bubble, about 5 minutes. Add the vanilla and pour this mixture over the soda crackers using a spatula to spread it over all the crackers.

Bake crackers for about 5 minutes or until the butter mixture starts to bubble. Take your pan out of the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. When they've melted spread them evenly too. Once the chocolate has cooled a little sprinkle the peppermint candy on top then put the tray in the fridge until it hardens.

Take out, break apart and kill anyone who tries to eat some of your new favorite holiday treat.
