Yelling At Your Kids Doesn’t Work

U.S.Army Korea/flickr

Not only does yelling at your kids not work, it can actually make things worse! This is according to a new study from the Universities of Pittsburgh and Michigan. According to a story in the Wall Street Journal, parents who used harsh verbal discipline on their 13 year old kids, found a greater increase in behavioral problems the next year. They also showed signs of depression.

One child psychiatrist explains that berating or shaming a child erodes any power you have. And if a child doesn’t respect you, they won’t listen to you.

So, any suggestions on how to keep from losing your temper when the kids are testing your patience?
