You Can’t Judge an Artist by Their Looks
Friday night I emceed the Chris Young concert at Grand Casino Mille Lacs. As expected, Chris is a nice guy. Earlier last week I found another artist who is equally as nice, but you wouldn’t expect him to be.
So I expect our country stars to be nice – it’s just our thing in country music right? Chris Young didn’t disappoint at all. He was very gracious to his fans as they all came through the meet and greet line. He was exceptionally kind to me as we were talking before I brought him on stage.
Now this doesn’t surprise me. In fact, I can count on one hand the number of country stars that weren’t very nice to their fans. For the most part, every single artist I have ever met have been gracious, accommodating, generous and kind. But that seems to be translating into other genres as well.
I enjoy many types of music from country to jazz, classical to rap, blues to rock – if it is good music, I love it. My nephew turned me on to a rap artist named Mac Miller. Last Monday, Mac was at the state fair and I wound up getting tickets for me and my nephew to attend the show. We wound up being able to go backstage and meet Mac.
This was a dream come true for my nephew and I have to admit, I was excited to meet Mac as well.
I don’t know what I was expecting, but I wasn’t expecting Mac to be so gracious and kind. I guess there is a stereotype that rap stars are all hard core and aren’t nice people. Let me tell you right now, that is far from true – at least with Mac Miller.
We got backstage and as soon as he walked in he started shaking our hands, asking our names and telling us how much he appreciated us being fans and supporting him. He autographed everything we could toss his way and spent nearly 20 minutes with us. I walked out of there with 150% more respect for him for being such a great guy.
My point here isn’t to say, “Look at me and who I have met”. My point here is to tell you that you can’t judge a book – or artist – by their appearance or genre of music they are in. I expected Chris to be nice, but I didn’t expect Mac to be as nice as he is. I look forward to seeing them both again soon!
