Country Classic Flashback to Feature Patsy Cline

Each Wednesday at 8 a.m. I join Cindy and Doug for the Country Classic Flashback.  We take a trip down memory lane to highlight a country legend.  This week we are featuring Patsy Cline.

Patsy is considered the most popular female country singer in recording history.  Many consider her to be something of an icon.

She was born Virginia Hensley on September 8, 1932 and married her first husband, Gerald Cline in 1953.  They divorced in July of 1957 and she was remarried to Charlie Dick by September of the same year.  Patsy and Charlie had two children, Julie and Randy.

Patsy made her network television debut in 1953 on a live version of the Grand Ole Opry.  In 1956 she auditioned for Arthur Godfrey's talent scouts show on CBS.  She performed Walkin' After Midnight and won the competition.

Patsy was one of the first artists to have a crossover hit.  Walkin' After Midnight landed at #2 on the country charts and #12 on the pop charts.  Her life and career were short lived.  She died in a plane crash at the age of 30 near Camden, Tennessee.
